JA Bayona’s film, ‘The Snow Society’, has touched the top of the record held by ‘The Sea Inside’ (14 Goyas) by winning 12 ‘big heads’ at the 38th awards ceremony. Goya awards 2024, held at the Valladolid Fair. In the case of ‘The Snow Society’ it has won 12 of the 13 ‘big heads’ for which it was competing, among which are two of the most important, Best Film and Best Director.

Bayona’s film thus becomes the third film with the most Goyas, also behind ‘Ay, Carmela!’, which in 1990 won 13 of the 15 awards it aspired to.

‘The Snow Society’

Released on January 4, 2024 on the Netflix platform —and in theaters for a couple of weeks—, The Snow Society narrates the flight from Uruguay that crashed in 1972 on a glacier in the Andes and from which only 29 of its 45 passengers survived.

Since the movie was released Juan Antonio Bayonathe film has constantly crept into the lists of nominations for the most important film awards. He has done it at international events such as the Oscars, which are held in March, or the Golden Globes, from which he left empty-handed. Goya was nominated for these in 13 different categories. ‘20,000 species of bees’

The dramatic film 20,000 species of beesdirected by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren and starring Sofía Otero, Patricia López Arnaiz, Ane Gabarain and Itziar Lazkano, aimed high at the Goya Awards, with 15 nominations. The film tells the story of Cocó, an eight-year-old boy who is called Aitor and who does not quite recognize himself. He, along with his family, embarks on an adventure: spending a summer in his mother’s house linked to raising bees and producing honey.

Directed by Víctor Erice, with Manolo Solo and José Coronado as the main protagonists, Close the eyes It emerged as one of the favorites with 11 Goya nominations.

The drama tells the story of Julio Arenas, a famous Spanish actor who disappears during the filming of a film. Released on November 10, 2023, the romantic drama, directed by Isabel Coixet, was nominated for six Goya 2024 awards. The film One Love triumphed at the San Sebastián Festival and tells the story of Nat, a 30-year-old woman who takes refuge in a town in rural Spain with the intention of redirecting his life.
