The history of Polish television includes many productions which, although decades have passed, still enjoy unflagging popularity among viewers. Years ago, their actors, who were predicted to have spectacular careers, could count on equally great fame. However, not everyone took advantage of the opportunity given to them by fate. What do the child stars of the Polish People’s Republic look like today and what do they do?

“About Two Men Who Stole the Moon”, “Seven Wishes”, “Civil War” or (available on ) are undoubtedly some of the most outstanding productions created during the Polish People’s Republic. The main characters were played by young and usually inexperienced actors. Some decided to develop their careers by staying in the world of films and series, others completely changed their interests and target industry. How have they changed since they conquered the screens? We are checking.

These productions were television hits in the Polish People’s Republic. How did the fate of child stars turn out?

In November 1962, the premiere of the film adaptation of Kornel Makuszyński’s novel, directed by Jacek Batory, took place. The main roles in the production were entrusted to the then 12-year-old brothers Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński, for whom it was both their debut and last adventure with the camera, because both linked their future and professional careers with politics.

Together they founded the Law and Justice party and actively worked for its supporters. In the years 2005-2010, Lech Kaczyński served as the president of Poland, and his rule ended with the catastrophe in Smolensk, during which he died. In turn, he still continues what he started with his brother, because he heads the group and is politically active.

An equally excellent on-screen duo was created by Henryk Gołębiewski and , who played the roles of the lisping but clever Poldek and the wise-cracking Duduś in the cult “Journey for One Smile”. They had previously met on the set of the film “Abel, Your Brother”, but their adventures with the camera were the result of chance and nothing indicated that they would achieve success, winning the hearts of millions of Poles.

Ultimately, Łobodziński left the film industry and became involved in journalism, while his series colleague remained a professionally active actor. Due to the fact that he mainly played episodes, in the meantime he earned money by working on a construction site. Today, he has produced such productions as “God’s Lining”, “Edi”, “Great Day” and “Wesele”.

They were the stars of cult series. What are they doing now?

In the 1960s, the series “Civil War” was extremely popular, and for 15-year-old Krzysztof Janczar, who played the role of Paweł Jankowski, it became a ticket to his career. The production turned out to be a great hit, and the aspiring actor decided to continue his adventure with the camera, starting studies at the Łódź Film School. Today he is 74 years old, and has many different titles under his belt, including: “Man of Iron”, “For Better and for Worse”, “Agata’s Law”, “Clan” and “Gods”.

Do you remember Daniel Kozakiewicz? He was only 14 years old when he played Darek Tarkowski in the hit series directed by Janusz Dymek. On the screen he appeared alongside the cat, Rademenes, and with him he won the hearts of the youngest viewers, becoming their idol.

Although many predicted him success and a promising career, the industry did not have much to offer him. He played several episodes, including: in or “Decalogue X”, and then withdrew from show business. She will celebrate her 54th birthday in 2024 and currently works as a photographer.
