There are productions that impress us so much that we want to show them to future generations. What makes a sensation are the special effects, the message or the excellent acting. Sometimes all three elements combine into one and we have a real masterpiece. There are several in Poland that deserve special attention. Time flies and we still like to come back to them.

In 2021, SWPS University prepared for the National Film Archive. Its goal was to select the best Polish film of all time. The first place went to “Day of the Freak” from 2002, directed by Marek Koterski and starring Marek Kondrat. The highest-grossing film is “The Clergy” from 2018 directed by Wojciech Smarzowski. The production earned over PLN 105 million and gathered crowds in cinemas from the very beginning (over 5.1 million viewers). Patryk Vega’s productions are also doing well. For example, “Pitbull. Dangerous Women” earned PLN 35 million. Andrzej Wajda’s “KatyĆ” brought a similar income. Viewers also liked the film “Lejdis” from 2008, which earned over PLN 50 million.
Which Polish film attracted the largest number of viewers in cinemas? Poles like adaptations
In recent years, “Letters to M”, a series of Christmas films, has been extremely popular. The stars included Agnieszka Dygant, Tomasz Karolak, Piotr Adamczyk and Maciej Stuhr. Audiences liked “Letters to M. 3” the most, which attracted over 3 million viewers to the cinema. Right after them are “Letters to M. 2” with 2.9 million viewers and “Letters to M.” (2.5 million viewers). However, they did not surpass “With Fire and Sword” directed by Jerzy Hoffmann (over 7.1 million viewers) and “Pan Tadeusz” by Andrzej Wajda (over 6.1 million viewers). It is worth adding that “With Fire and Sword” brought only PLN 200,000 less profit than “Clergy”.
