Unexpectedly, a Polish romantic comedy appeared on the top Netflix list, premiering in 2023.

Polish romantic comedies do not have the best associations, and critics often leave no stone unturned on them. However, in this case it is different. “Skołowani” is a story about love, but the film makes us reflect on people with disabilities. It tells the story of Maks Wandor, a wealthy womanizer, played by Michał Czarnecki. The man meets Ania, who takes care of people in wheelchairs. Accidentally, the woman recognizes that he is disabled, and he does not correct her. Anna introduces him to her sister, Julia, who is indeed disabled. Wandor’s little lie turns out to be the beginning of an interesting story. She plays the role of Julia. – This story has something that I like in movies, it is funny, but at times touching, it talks about important issues and goes quite deeply into the characters, without losing a comic look at life – the actress in one of the interviews.
The cinema premiere was not a hit. The film turned out to be a hit on Netflix
“Skołowani” is the Polish version of the French hit “Kręcisz się”, which appeared in cinemas in 2018. The new version was directed by Jan Macierewicz, and the cinema premiere took place in April 2023, but interestingly, the production did not attract a huge audience. It had only 25,000 viewers on its premiere weekend, but when it aired, it turned out to be a real hit. Currently, it ranks third among the top films in Poland and has overtaken the film with Anne Hathaway “The Devil Wears Prada”.
