Kevin Spacey signed a contract with the production company “House of Cards”. The actor will pay the company “only” one million dollars, but he also pledged to help MRC in its fight against insurers.

Kevin Spacey was removed from work on the series “House of Cards” in 2017 after the actor was accused of sexually harassing young men on the set. Due to the fact that Spacey was a key character for the series, the creators had to change the vision to save the plot without him.

MRC, the production company responsible for the series, concluded that the situation that forced it to part with the actor exposed the company to huge losses. “House of Cards” was an international hit, but after changes in the cast, audience enthusiasm for the series waned somewhat.

The arbitration showed that the allegations against the actor were credible, and the producers could demand compensation from him. MRC demanded $36 million in court, but the recently concluded settlement protected the star from such huge costs.

The creators of “House of Cards” and Kevin Spacey have reached a settlement

Spacey and MRC finally agreed. Due to the agreement, the actor will pay the company “only” one million dollars in annual installments. The actor also committed to testify as a witness in the MRC case with insurance companies, which remains unresolved since 2022.

MCR insurers argued that they financially protect the creators in the event of an actor’s absence from the set due to, for example, illness – not breaking the law. However, according to Variety, producers maintain that the actor disappeared from the set because he checked himself into a sexual addiction treatment center, which qualifies for compensation. Judge Mark Epstein dismissed MCR’s lawsuit twice because the company did not specify the reasons for the actor’s absence from the set. Spacey then refused access to his medical records, and after the settlement, the star’s testimony will be key evidence in the case.
