Privately, the actress is the wife of actor and screenwriter, William H. Macy, with whom she has two daughters, Sophie and Georgie. She decided to help the latter get into her dream studies. When it turned out that the SAT exam results did not qualify her to participate in the recruitment process at the selected university, she decided to ask for help from a recruitment consultant who helped her falsify them, in return for which she was to pay him PLN 15,000. dollars. Perhaps the case would have gone unnoticed if not for the fact that the money was ultimately intended to go to charity. A scandal broke out.

On March 12, 2019, Huffman was arrested at her home in California. After hearing the allegations, the actress pleaded guilty and the trial began shortly thereafter. Ultimately, she was sentenced to 14 days, but that was not all. In addition, she had to pay a fine of PLN 30,000. dollars and perform 250 hours of community service. Although the case received wide coverage in the media and had a negative impact on her career, depriving her of the opportunity to develop, the actress consistently avoided commenting. According to Deadline, she was supposed to appear in a spin-off of the series “Good Doctor”, but it was not approved. An ABC comedy in which she was supposed to play the owner of a baseball team was also rejected. Currently, Huffman is focusing on theater performances, starring in the play “Hir”, which was recognized by the New York Times as one of the most influential works of post-war queer literature.
