Nowadays, we cannot imagine life without the Internet. We use it to learn, have fun and contact friends. Unfortunately, we are also exposed to various dangers. There are often fake ads or ads created by fraudsters on social networking sites that, at first glance, look like those from a real store.
Fake Facebook ads. Scammers impersonate stores and offer discounts
CSIRT KNF (Computer Security Incident Response Team of the Polish financial sector) published an important announcement on its profile on the X platform. He urged caution when shopping online. Ads created by cybercriminals have been appearing on Facebook for some time now. This time, the fraudsters impersonate the Zalando store and offer products at extremely attractive prices. In this way, they want to extort personal data and payment card information. A similar situation recently occurred with the Neonet chain of stores. The thieves then encouraged people to buy a loudspeaker for PLN 9. In fact, it costs PLN 1,700.
What is phishing? You can easily lose all your money
Before you decide to buy an item, pay attention to the URL. In the case of Zalando, their website address is www.zalando.pl. The website that the fake ad will redirect you to is vip.zalandostore.com. Always make sure you are on the right page and viewing the real deal.
Cybercriminals have become even more active before the upcoming Valentine’s Day. On this occasion, they offer fake discounts of up to 80%, e.g. New Balance reduced from PLN 359 to PLN 71. Additionally, they offer free shipping and the possibility of returning goods for 90 days. Another catch comes during payment. You can only pay with Visa and MasterCard, but on the real Zalando there are also other options, e.g. PayPal or Przelewy24.
