“The Witcher” – the premiere of the second season. Mateusz Morawiecki: It is a great cultural event

the second season of the series was probably one of the most anticipated this year. Eight new episodes hit the Netflix platform on Friday 17 December. The film adaptation based on the saga written by Andrzej Sapkowski brings together fans all over the world. The first part was very popular, and the series of short stories by the Polish writer made it to the prestigious New York Times bestseller list – 27 years after its first publication.

– It is rare for a movie or series based on a Polish book to make such a sensation in the world – said the head of the government. What does Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki think about the premiere? “This is a great cultural event,” he commented in episode 14 of his weekly podcast.

Mateusz Morawiecki: In the People’s Republic of Poland, we all read Polish fantasy

– Conservatives often turn their noses a bit, that pop culture is a slightly worse genre of culture, that real culture is only the one made at high C, but we all read Polish fantasy, for example Stanisław Lem – he emphasized. – It turned out that in such literature you can also say something important – he added.

– This is also the case with “The Witcher” – on the one hand, it is a game in which Andrzej Sapkowski uses motifs from folk tales from our region. But the other strength of “The Witcher”, I think, is that it is simply a universal story. Regardless of where we come from, we are all people who are really looking for love, happiness, fulfillment and adventure, said the Prime Minister.

Culture in Poland? “The ceiling is suspended very high”

As emphasized by Mateusz Morawiecki in his podcast, “The Witcher” illustrates the level of our culture. – The ceiling is suspended very high. It is enough for us to believe in our potential. Just like Andrzej Sapkowski once believed that the figure of the cranky and a bit apathetic Geralt could conquer the world – he said.

The politician also mentioned to his listeners about the producer of the series, Tomasz Bagiński. – It is thanks to such people that our culture is becoming wider and wider – he assessed. Step by step, “The Witcher” gained footholds as ambassadors in the big world, and finally found itself in the orbit of Netflix’s interests. And let’s be honest, where is the global heart beating today? Well, on Netflix or in the Marvel studio – the prime minister concluded
