The finale of the “Give Children the Sun” campaign is behind us. Valuable help for children and their loved ones

Procter & Gamble has been using the power and popularity of its brands to support important social initiatives for years. “Give Children the Sun” is a campaign organized since 1999, thanks to which the company has already donated over PLN 65 million to the Polsat Foundation, which used the funds received to support both medical facilities and young patients. This year, thanks to the cooperation of P&G, Carrefour and the Polsat Foundation, each of us could once again contribute to helping sick children and their caregivers. As a result of joint activities, 11 social rooms for parents staying with their children in the oncology ward were renovated in the “Cape of Hope” in Wrocław.

With a child in the hospital

A child’s stay in hospital is never easy. It does not matter whether hospitalization is planned or emergency, whether we spend a few days or several months in the facility – it is always a challenge and stress, especially for the little person, but also for his or her loved ones.

We can read in many documents that relatives have the right to stay with a child in hospital, including: in the Charter of the Rights of the Child – Patient or in the European Charter of the Rights of the Child in Hospitals. Experts emphasize that the presence of caregivers may have a positive impact not only on the child’s comfort, but also on the progress of young patients’ treatment. Therefore, it is important to create the best possible conditions for children’s stay in the hospital, so that they have a place where they can rest, cook and eat a meal like at home, and gain energy for the next hours. With these needs in mind, 11 social rooms were renovated in the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation, Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the University Clinical Hospital in Wrocław. After almost a decade of use, they required major renovation.

A friendly environment to fight for health

Creating a comfortable place for parents who are staying with their child in hospital was the goal of the latest edition of the “Give Children the Sun” campaign. Procter & Gamble joined the forces of its brands, such as Ariel, Fairy, Gillette, Lenor and Pampers, to raise money for which the Polsat Foundation will renovate social rooms in the Clinic called Cape of Hope. Thanks to the cooperation with the Carefour chain, everyone who bought P&G products in its stores at that time contributed to the Wroc³aw project.

Exceptional cooperation

Procter & Gamble and the Polsat Foundation have been cooperating with each other for over 20 years, and as part of previous editions of the “Give Children the Sun” campaign, the partners collected over PLN 65 million. The funds were allocated to the purchase of modern medical equipment for hospitals and children’s wards throughout the country, including: equipment for diagnosing premature babies and specialized teaching aids for blind and visually impaired children.

The “Give Children the Sun” campaign was launched by P&G in 1999, and its mechanism is simple – by choosing everyday products on the shelves, each of us can support the Polsat Foundation. And the Wrocław Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation, Oncology and Pediatric Hematology is a place that has been associated with this initiative from the very beginning. This is where, among others, The funds collected during the first edition of the campaign were used to support the creation and equipment of the first Children’s Department of Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation and Gene Therapy in Poland.

– Wrocław’s Cape of Hope is one of the largest, highly specialized facilities for children and adolescents with cancer and hematopoietic system diseases in Poland. We have been supporting it for years, so we are aware of how important it was to create a friendly and warm space for parents and young patients. We allocated the funds collected as part of “Give Children the Sun” to rooms that will provide caregivers with comfortable conditions and the opportunity to rest in the often very difficult process of their children’s recovery – says Krystyna Aldridge-Holc, President of the Management Board Polsat Foundation.

Everyday choices matter, and each of us could contribute to the “Give Children the Sun” campaign.
