Nine News Melbourne has already commented on the matter. Initially, it was called a technical error caused by the automation of the photo correction process – the computer supposedly decided on its own that Purcell’s original photo was not up to station standards. “This is standard practice. The image was resized to suit our needs. This caused Photoshop’s automated features to create an image that differed from the original,” it said in a statement on Tuesday. The problem is that representatives of Adobe Photoshop also spoke out. They claim that none of their programs have built-in functions that would automatically reveal women’s belly and enlarge their breasts. For such modifications to occur, conscious human action is needed.
An additional twist to the case is the scope of Georgie Purcell’s interests. The MP deals with animal rights and opposes the sexualization of women. She was supposed to talk on TV about the government’s repeal of the duck hunting ban. In her social media, she often raises the issue of sexualization because it directly concerns her.
