Netflix is either more expensive or with ads. And without access to some of the hits

Netflix checks how attached we are to its platform. In Canada and the UK, the cheapest package will be removed soon. In return, customers will either upgrade to higher fees or pay less for advertising and less choice.

In the face of growing competition, it is looking for a business model that is suitable for itself. First, there was a ban on sharing accounts between different households. The ad-supported package was recently introduced in North America and the UK, and now the company has decided to take the next step. The cheapest advertising-free subscription plans will be discontinued, so customers will be forced to either pay more or use cheaper, but defective plans with advertising.

Netflix checks what we are ready for. It will cancel the cheapest package and offer a more expensive one

For now, the changes are planned again for one of the company’s largest markets – Canadian and British. As announced by Netflix, in the second quarter of this year the “basic” plan – the cheapest one without ads – will no longer be available to existing subscribers. As we read on the websites and , , or paying less, but with the inclusion of a paid promotion and with quite limited access, among others. to the platform’s hits.

Why is this information also important for customers in Poland? Netflix has no habit of backing down from decisions once made. What it “tests” in other countries, it later introduces all over the world, although of course gradually. The ban on sharing accounts was first introduced in the United States and later spread throughout the world. New advertising subscription plans will also reach Poland sooner or later – it is estimated that this will happen at the end of 2024 at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Canada and the UK will have an attractive opportunity to ditch the approximately US$12 plan for an ad-free subscription for around US$15-16 or an ad-supported subscription for almost US$7. Unfortunately, a cheaper package also means a failed offer. Viewers who “pay” to watch ads will not get access to Netflix hits: “House of Cards”, “Peaky Blinders”, “The Sinner” and many, many others. The cheapest advertising package does not allow offline watching and using Netflix at the same time on several screens in one household. Ads appear every hour during viewing and last 4-5 minutes.

There are currently three tariff plans in force in Poland. The cheapest is PLN 29 per month – without ads, with access to the entire library of titles, but only for one screen and in HD quality. A two-screen package with better quality is PLN 43 per month. A four-screen package in Ultra HD quality is PLN 60 per month. Ad-supported packages are currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Germany, Canada, France, Brazil and Australia. Despite the general Internet outrage over the introduction of advertising packages and the ban on sharing accounts, Netflix has not recorded a significant drop in subscriptions.
