On Sunday, two climate activists splashed soup on the “Mona Lisa” exhibited in the French Louvre. In this way, the activists wanted to draw attention to the issue of promoting healthy and sustainable food.

On Sunday, members of the “Riposte alimentaire” group poured soup over the armored glass behind which the “Mona Lisa”, Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, is located. Activists wearing T-shirts with the words “Riposte alimentaire” shouted slogans at the crowd calling for the promotion of healthy and sustainable food: “What is more important? Art or the right to healthy and sustainable food?”

After this situation, museum employees covered the painting and the activists standing in front of it with screens. A crisis team was also established, and the room where the “Mona Lisa” is normally exhibited was evacuated. In connection with the incident, the museum issued a statement: “Two activists from the ecological movement ‘Riposte Alimentaire’ spilled pumpkin soup on the armored glass protecting the Mona Lisa, this Sunday, January 28, 2024, at approximately 10 am.” The facility’s management also informed about the complaint.

“Riposte alimentaire” is a French group that presents itself on social media as: “A campaign of civil resistance that aims to bring about radical changes in society at the climatic and social level.”

This is not the first time that the Mona Lisa has been targeted by activists. , and then scattered roses around him.
