The 32nd final started on January 28, 2023. The charity event organized for over three decades by Jerzy Owsiak has reunited millions of people not only in Poland, but also around the world. The course and effects of the collection were discussed with delight in news programs of the most important television stations in the country, including: in Polsat, TVN or TVP. However, Tomasz Sakiewicz’s right-wing television did not share this enthusiasm.

The topic of the annual finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity did not escape attention, as it was discussed in the main edition of the “Today” program. The host, Jacek Suwał, started with a short announcement, which initially seemed surprisingly optimistic. – Today we have the most important state holiday of smiling Poland, because today is Sunday, when Jurek Owsiak’s Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity conducts its collection – , announcing Konrad Warzocha’s reportage.
After a while, he stated that many Poles were already openly declaring their reluctance to further support this initiative, and he did not fail to mention the political connections of Owsiak’s family members. – More and more people declare that they will not donate a single zloty to this campaign, and not because Owsiak’s parents worked in the ministry and his brother was in ZOMO. They say it’s a matter of different rules – he added, thus making it clear what the tone of the material will be. The impression turned out to be accurate, although it started quite innocently.

At the beginning of the report, it was emphasized that year after year it records millions of profits, thanks to which it is possible to support and implement various charitable goals. And that’s where the positives ended. There was no mention of the fact that as much as PLN 175,426,813 was collected during this year’s finale. However, almost immediately the final event was questioned, as the organization of the event, according to the reporter, involved huge costs. Thus, he theorized that only a small part of the funds obtained in the collection was actually spent on the purchase of specialized hospital equipment. He even went as far as to say that most of them cover the costs of the event that is its culmination. – A reasonable question is what percentage of the collected funds is allocated to achieving the collection goals and what percentage is allocated to the organization, and does it make sense then? There are other collections with minimal costs that last 365 days a year, he argued.
The highlight of the material was the mention of billboards that were hung just before the parliamentary elections. They carried the slogan “Poles! Let’s defeat this EVIL! WE WILL win!”, which was treated as actions against Law and Justice. – Moreover, Jerzy Owsiak, the organizer and face of WOŚP, openly sympathizes with certain political circles – Warzocha stated bluntly. – This is not charity across divisions, but according to divisions – he said at the end.
It is worth mentioning that Owsiak has already given an interview in which he referred to these allegations. He denied that the posters were related to politics. He emphasized that the contracts for their implementation were signed many months earlier and neither the message contained in them nor the time in which they were posted were intended to encourage or discourage citizens from joining any of the parties. – We are fighting sepsis. Contracts for such a campaign were signed in March, and the final contract in May. We had no idea when the election date would be, he explained.
