The strangest horror in the world has been released on Polish streaming. No one expects murders from him

The plot of the horror film “Slotherhouse: The Lazy Death” will surprise even die-hard fans of the genre. Here the murderer is… a sloth. The famous film from 2023 can now be watched in Polish streaming.

Horror film creators have been wondering for years what means, not yet used, can be used to scare viewers. There are directors who skillfully play with the form of the genre, such as Jordnan Peele, but also those who focus on surprising with an absurd plot.

The strangest horror movies in the world. They killed snails, sheep and tires

When the description of a film states, for example, that the main threat to its characters is a murderous tire, connoisseurs of horror cinema probably have to satisfy their curiosity and check whether the idea worked, at least slightly, and turned out better than expected. And there are many horror movies with absurd plots to choose from. Apart from the deadly tire, horror movies have already attacked mutated snails (Snails, 1988), sheep (Black Sheep, 2006), zombie beavers (Zombiebobry 2014), and even space clowns (Bloodthirsty Clowns from Outer Space, 1988).

Last year’s blockbuster in a similar vein has just been released on streaming. The creators of “Slotherhouse: The Lazy Death” used the popular motif of a harmless animal, which is absolutely not associated with aggression, to turn it into a bloodthirsty beast. This time the focus was on… a sloth. And it must be admitted that the vision of committing murders by a mammal, which in pop culture is portrayed as lethargic and slow, captures the imagination.

The production has recently been available to watch on TVP VOD, and is also available for rent on Prime Video, Play Now, Cinemax, Rakuten TV, Player, Polsat Box Go and on Canal + Premiery.

As we read in the film’s description, Matthew Goodhue’s horror film tells the story of a student who wants to gain popularity at her university and win the election for the president of a student fraternity. For this purpose, she adopts a charming sloth, which is to become her electoral mascot. Suddenly it turns out that the animal has the instincts of a thoroughbred killer.

The production was quite coolly received by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the horror film scored 58 percent on the freshness scale from reviewers, while viewers rated it slightly better – 75 percent. In Poland, the statistics also do not look particularly encouraging. The film received 3.8 out of 10 stars on Filmweb from viewers and 4.2 from critics. “The creators’ mental laziness hurts more here than the claws of the Mapetat they animate: – wrote Michał Lesiak from Ekrany about the production.
