The news about their wedding spread throughout Poland. Nobody knew it was a joke. “It was a special bond”

The series “The stakes are greater than life” became a breakthrough in Stanisław Mikulski’s career. The actor had a crowd of loyal fans who came to his author meetings organized in community centers. These were hosted by a renowned announcer, Edyta Wojtczak, who did not hide her sympathy for him. Rumors that they had something more in common circulated for years. Many even claimed that they were married. What was their relationship really like?

In October 1968, the premiere of the cult series directed by Janusz Morgenstern and Andrzej Konic took place, in which Stanisław Mikulski created the character of Hans Kloss. The role brought him not only incredible popularity and critical acclaim, but also the sympathy of viewers for whom he quickly became an idol.

They bonded over work and later became friends. Mikulski and Wojtczak were accused of having an affair for years

The unwavering popularity meant that meetings with authors for fans of “Stawka” were soon organized in various cultural centers in Poland. Edyta Wojtczak, a renowned announcer in the Polish People’s Republic, was asked to host them. She agreed without a second thought because, as she openly admitted years later, she was one of the actor’s admirers. It soon turned out that he liked not only the character he created on screen.

Staś and I traveled a lot together. I remember that when I announced his performances, the audience went crazy with happiness, not allowing me or him to say a word for a long time.

– in the book “Prezenterki: tele PRL” by Aleksandra Szarłat.

Due to the nature of their work, Mikulski and Wojtczak spent many hours on the road together. For this reason, their acquaintance quickly ceased to be formal and became friendly. During numerous trips together, they were inseparable, which made many fans believe that in private they were a couple. But it was completely different. At that time, the announcer was the wife of Jan Szymański, whom she married in 1966, and the actor was married to Jadwiga Rutkiewicz, whom he met while working on the series. – Even though we had both been married to other partners, it was thought that we were together – she said years later.

Did Mikulski and Wojtczak get married? Everyone thought so, but the rumor was started by a spontaneous joke

Their unique intimacy became the subject of gossip not only among fans, but also among some colleagues, and its clear confirmation was the news of the wedding, which rang out in the media like a bolt from the blue. But from the beginning. One day, while on the way to one of the concerts, Bogdan Kryspin, the sound director accompanying Wojtczak and Mikulski, noticed several members of the Sejm sitting in a compartment next to them. Without thinking much, he decided to make fun of them. He went to the carriage, knocked politely, and then invited them to… the wedding of TV stars. – We will marry the most popular TV couple – he was supposed to encourage them to participate.

The MPs, of course, expressed their desire to celebrate this extraordinary moment and, as you can easily guess, unaware of the joke, they spread the rumor into the world, which quickly spread throughout Poland. This was great news for fans, after all, many people had made such assumptions. Wojtczak and Mikulski, however, never commented on it, but whenever the topic came up, they smiled mischievously to themselves. – We experienced many fantastic moments together while traveling around the country. We were friends, we respected each other, we had a special bond – she argued after the actor’s death.
