How much do women spend on beauty? “After leaving the beautician, I felt like a neglected woman”

A new trend is gaining popularity in the United States. Women share on the “X” platform how much they spend on beauty each month and what they do to save. “I go to the hairdresser twice a month, once a month to have my eyebrows adjusted, twice for a manicure and once for a massage,” said Niccoya, who initiated the discussion. Her monthly expenses are $450. I asked Polish women how much they spend monthly on services in beauty salons and cosmetics, and what ways they can save.

Going to the hairdresser and beautician is a big expense for many women. The increase in prices of hairdressing, beauty and care services was recorded in May at 13.3 percent. At the beginning of the year, many salons updated their price lists, and unfortunately the prices are not lower. How much does beauty care cost? – In my family, I am considered a person who cares a lot about appearance. I used to spend a lot on cosmetics because I was so tempted by various new products. I can say that I went through a stage of addiction to buying cosmetics. I watched profiles of influencers on social media and it had a significant impact on me. I spent about PLN 500 a month on beauty products, says Agata.

How to save on cosmetics? “I buy what I need”

However, that time is now behind him. For over two years, she has been browsing beauty content on the Internet sporadically, and has become more absorbed in politics. – Thanks to this, I only buy what I need. I spend a maximum of PLN 200 a month on skin care and makeup products. I go to the hairdresser once every 3 months to trim the ends. She dyes her hair twice a year. I only go to the beautician’s office when I’m broken out and I need to cleanse my face. Maybe once every two years, he says.

Ola, who is the mother of a two-year-old, has always been a minimalist when it comes to beauty care. – Since I had a child, I sometimes don’t even brush my teeth due to lack of time in the morning – she laughs. According to her, a healthy diet and exercise are enough to maintain the healthy appearance of the skin. Recently, however, she went for facial cleansing. – After leaving, I felt like a neglected woman. Because I shouldn’t use cosmetics from the drugstore, because face gel and eye cream are definitely not enough. I should include acids here, and monthly cleansing for PLN 300 there. In addition, cosmetics are best from this particular salon, because they are the only distributor. I am willing to spend more on a really better cosmetic, but when my grandmother offered me a face gel for PLN 300, I doubted it, she says.

Meanwhile, she manages to spend PLN 50 to PLN 100 on cosmetics a month. – I mainly use three proven face products. These are also quite efficient things, I don’t have to buy them every month. Hairdresser once every 4 months. I probably won’t go to the beautician anymore, because instead of feeling better, I felt like Fiona from Shrek – she jokes.

Manicure at the end of town or at home

Karolina goes to the hairdresser once every six months. – One visit costs approx. PLN 150. I do my nails more often. A titanium manicure costs from PLN 130 to PLN 170, depending on the salon, so recently, to save money, I went to a salon about 45 minutes away by public transport, instead of going to one that was 8 minutes away on foot, she emphasized.

Moreover, she admitted that she usually does manicures in cycles: she applies nail polish two months in a row, then takes a two-month break. – On average, I also do henna and eyebrow shaping every 2 months, it costs PLN 50 per visit. Considering I don’t do everything every month, I don’t think I spend much. I don’t buy cosmetics very often because they are efficient. I’m not really the type of person who has, for example, three hair conditioners at once, because I have to test all the new products. I’m rather loyal to brands, and if I want to try something new, I buy it only when I run out of the cosmetic, she sums up.

Iza calculated that if she went to the hairdresser every month for nails and eyebrow lamination, it would cost her PLN 700. – I have learned to minimize costs and, for example, one month I go to the hairdresser and the next I get my eyebrows done. I perform some services myself. Of course, I don’t change my hybrid myself every two weeks, because it simply takes less time in a beauty salon, but if the budget runs out, I can do it myself. I also have a friend who regularly cuts my bangs, she says.
