Body or face – what do men pay attention to? One thing counts for them in their future wife

What do men pay attention to in a woman’s appearance? Scientists have already considered this issue many times, and the conclusions from their research can be surprising. As they proved, everything depends on one but very important issue.

Choosing a partner is not always an easy matter. We pay attention to specific features, and we also have different motives and experiences that influence our decisions. Although appearance is not everything, it is still an important element when choosing a potential partner. However, here we usually decide to compromise. How do scientists view this issue? They decided to check what women pay attention to most often and what they look at.

What do men pay attention to in a woman’s appearance? Scientists checked

Carin Perilloux from Southwestern University in Texas and Jaime Cloud from Western Oregon University, what men and women pay attention to when choosing a partner and whether this choice depends on whether they expect a long-term relationship or a fleeting relationship. For this purpose, they invited 250 women and men to participate in the study. Then they asked them to imagine that they had no partner and to imagine the perfect one. They were also divided into two groups. One of them had to imagine a long-term relationship, the other a short relationship. Each respondent was given a specific list of appearance features. Half of them concerned the face (e.g. eyes, nose, hair, smile) and half concerned the body (e.g. height, waist circumference, figure). For each feature, the respondent was asked to indicate on a scale from 0 to 10 those that were most important to him. To make the task more difficult, everyone was also given a specific “budget”. Some had 70 points at their disposal, others only 30.

What do women and what do men pay attention to? This is what matters most when choosing a partner

What were the conclusions of the study? It turns out that men “designing” an ideal partner for a long-term relationship in this way more often scored features related to the face than to the body. This applied to respondents with both larger and smaller budgets. On the other hand men who were to choose a partner for a short-term relationship focused more on the body, but only if they had fewer points at their disposal. In turn, women, regardless of the amount of their “point budget” and the length of the relationship, focused more on the face than on the body of their potential partner.

A similar experiment was previously conducted by Jaime Confer, a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Together with the team, what do women and men consider when choosing a partner when looking for a husband or wife and a short-term partner? The conclusions of the study were similar. They gathered 192 men and 183 women and were then asked to imagine both relationships. They were then presented with their potential significant other with their face and body covered. 61 percent men and 69 percent women who wanted a long-term relationship were the first to reveal their faces. Also, most women expecting a short-term relationship were the first to reveal their faces. However, men from this group chose the body more often. This concerned 52 percent. subjects.
