The dispute between the old and new TVP authorities is entering a new phase. Virtually every day brings new court decisions as to who had the right to do what during the public media revolution. A significant number of former TVP employees found a safe haven in TV Republika, a private television station indirectly owned by the Srebrna company, which in turn belongs to people associated with Jarosław Kaczyński.
TV Republika has been reporting on changes in public media from the very beginning. In the face of recent court decisions that question the legal validity of TVP’s December changes, journalist Łukasz Jankowski invited Michał Adamczyk, the dismissed head of TAI, for an interview. He allowed himself a very risky question in Tuesday’s program.
A TV Republika journalist asks Michał Adamczyk why he will not use violence
Michał Adamczyk was an extremely frequent guest in December as a person with first-hand information – for almost a month after the cancellation he stayed at the television headquarters, like a reporter on the spot, informing about new events at Powstańców Warszawy Square. However, in an interview with Łukasz Jankowski on TV Republika, he heard a question that could suggest plans to use violence at TVP headquarters.
There were voices that after yesterday’s decision of the registration court in Warsaw, you should hire a good security company and simply enter the building on Woronicza Street. Why isn’t this happening?
– Jankowski asked Adamczyk.
The former head of TAI, and the then unrecognized new head of TVP, diplomatically replied:
Perhaps there will come a time for this, I would not like to reveal any details at this stage. (…) We are currently trying all judicial and legal methods. We call on the usurpers to come to their senses and leave the building voluntarily. Further actions will certainly be taken.
TVP reports the possibility of committing a crime by a TV Republika journalist
Suggesting a forceful solution, popular for example in illegal evictions of tenants, will now be considered by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. According to the portal, TVP filed a report about the possibility of committing a crime by journalist Łukasz Jankowski. His question could have been a public incitement to commit a prohibited act, which – like perpetration – is punishable under Art. 18.2 and 19.1 of the Penal Code.
It is not known whether the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw will start proceedings in this case. However, the person concerned himself responded. Łukasz Jankowski, asked on social media what he thought about the notification submitted by TVP, replied:
“I don’t know if I’ll die of laughter sooner. To turn this into an incitement case, you’d have to have a lot of imagination. Oh well, we’ll bother the prosecutors.”
