What is onion ointment for? Not just scars
Onions contain a lot of vitamin C, which is a strong antioxidant. It has a positive effect on the condition of the skin, smoothes it and eliminates minor imperfections. In addition, the vegetable is known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties. This is why it is so willingly used in the case of scars, acne lesions and stretch marks.
How to make onion ointment? It’s very simple
You can find ready-made ointment in almost every pharmacy. It is inexpensive and easily available. However, if you are a fan of home-made products with a certain composition, it is worth making it at home. Especially since it’s really simple and doesn’t take much time. What will you need? Prepare:
- half a teaspoon of salt,
- a spoon of grated gray soap,
- medium-sized onion,
- a glass of water.
Mix salt and soap in a small pot. Chop the onion finely, add it to the remaining ingredients, pour water over it and start cooking over low heat. After about 15 minutes, when the vegetable softens, set aside to cool. Finally, strain through gauze and transfer the resulting ointment to a glass container.
How to use scar ointments? Start with an allergy test
It is best to use homemade scar ointment at least once a day. Massage it into the sensitive area with circular movements, leave for about 5 minutes, then rinse. Before first use, perform an allergy test. Onion, although effective, contains enzymes that can irritate not only the skin but also the eyes. Not suitable for people with sensitive skin. If redness or burning occurs, stop the treatment.
