The documentary shows some of the action scenes that required the most work, such as simulating the plane crash or the avalanche that buried them under snow for three days. Bayona explains that several sets were built to capture the images of the plane, and these were assisted by green screens, motion simulators, ropes and pulleys.

The young actors also filmed the snow scenes on three different sets, one of them in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Spain, where the cold they felt was real.

The moment of the avalanche is one of the most tragic in the history of the Uruguayans, as eight of their companions died when they were buried by the snow. For Bayona, it was necessary to replicate that energy in the film, and so the actors filmed scenes with real snow, so the desperation and frustration to get to the surface was partly true as well.

In the documentary, in addition to the action scenes, the audience will learn about the casting process that the actors carried out, which lasted several months. Many of them cried, applauded and laughed out loud when they were told they had been chosen to play a character.

Then the training began. They practiced breathing exercises with a team of professionals, trying to channel their emotions and connect with the energy of the mountain. Some actors had to lose weight gradually, to demonstrate the state in which the survivors were found, all under the supervision of a group of nutritionists.

Finally, the documentary features interviews with some of the survivors, such as Nando Parrado, Carlitos Páez and Roberto Canessa, who appear in cameos in the film.
