When to prune thuja in spring? Not everyone knows up to what month this can be done

Spring cutting of thuja should take place at the turn of March and April, before the plant starts growing and the frosts disappear. At the same time, it is worth getting rid of old and dry twigs that will no longer grow and the thuja does not need them. The next cut should be made after the young twigs have grown – in June, and the last one, consisting only in minimal shortening of the shoots, no later than halfway through.

When not to prune? Thujas don’t always need this

If it is only in the second half of August or at the beginning of September that you remember that you were supposed to prune your thuja before winter, it is better not to do it anymore. Such a late date guarantees that the plant will not have time to prepare for wintering and heal wounds after cutting, which will result in it freezing in winter. In such a case, the thujas may no longer be salvageable and you will only be kicking yourself.

When should thuja be planted? Appropriate fertilizer for thuja will help them grow

There are several dates when you can plant thujas. The most popular time is the turn of October and November, but before you do it, carefully analyze the weather forecast. It turns out that the plants must be placed in the ground no later than 6 weeks before the first frost. You can also plant them in spring or summer, but you must remember that they require frequent and intensive watering because they may dry out. In addition to watering, it is also worth strengthening plants with home-made fertilizers. Coffee grounds will work in this case. Just mix them with the soil where the thujas grow and then water them. The nutrients will be released gradually and will support your thuja.
