The EH Bildu deputy Mertxe Aizpurua has come out in defense of the actress Itziar Ituno after the “ferocious, anti-democratic and inadmissible campaign” that he denounces that he has suffered after leading a demonstration of ETA prisoners, with the slogan ‘Konponbiderako Giltza’ (Keys to resolution).

For Aizpurua, the response that has been given to Ituño for participating in this demonstration is “of exceptional severity“. “The issue of censorship is important, but within this world there is a recent case that is exceptionally serious. It affects a Basque actress, Itziar Ituño, about whom a fierce, undemocratic and inadmissible campaign has fallen for participating in a demonstration in favor of the rights of prisoners, rights that must be respected because they are suffering from a series of exceptional measures that the vast majority of Basque society considers cannot be maintained,” said the deputy.

During his speech, Aizpurua called on the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, an opinion on the matter after “such a strong campaign” against the actress. “It wasn’t just harassment. It was the cancellation of two contracts by two private companies,” she concluded.

The origin of the controversy

The actress Itziar Ituño, known for her performance in ‘La casa de papel’, participated in a demonstration of support for the rights of ETA prisoners. His presence at this event caused him to lose several promotional agreements with large multinational companies.

On the one hand, Iberia He unpublished the interview he did with the actress for his ‘Talent on Board’ program to “not fuel the controversy.” Later, it was known that BMW Lurautoa concessionaire in the Basque Country and Navarra, ceased its collaboration with the interpreter, ensuring that this company “is not linked to any type of ideology.”
