After the changes in TVP, the station’s flagship service faced many challenges. The program was produced quickly, by a new team, without access to a studio dedicated to the format, which was occupied by former station employees. The problems that the “19.30” service encountered at the start had an impact on its viewership.

One of the priorities of the new government after the elections was to introduce changes in public media. However, no one expected that the revolution would be carried out with such a bang. One of the first changes introduced was not only the replacement of the TVP team, but also the removal of the flagship format of Telewizja Polska – “Wiadomości”.

“Wiadomości” was watched more willingly than “19.30”. Statistics provided

From December 2023, the main TVP news service changed its name to “19.30”. The new program presents information in a balanced way, avoids sensational slogans typical of tabloids, employs foreign correspondents and includes minorities in the public discussion.

However, the lack of a message full of negative emotions results in less audience involvement in what is happening on the screen. New content and the way it was presented were also rejected by PiS voters, who abandoned watching Telewizja Polska in favor of , where the old TVP guard found jobs. These and many other factors resulted in the viewership of the new “19.30” news service.

“19.30” is doing worse than “Fakty”, but it is ahead of “Events”

Telewizja Polska broadcasts “19.30” from December 21 on TVP1, TV Polonia and TVP Info channels. Portal Wirtualne Media Nielsen Audience Measurement, which showed the format’s viewing level between December 29, 2023 and January 14 this year. It turns out that the average of the service on all stations was 2.10 million people, which gives 16.15 percent of the station’s share in the television market among all viewers.

It turns out that this is a lower result than the one recorded by “Wiadomości” just before the revolution in TVP. According to the website, in the period from December 1 to 19, 2023, the old Polish Television news service was watched by 2.72 million viewers, which is approximately 620,000 more viewers.

The “7.30” competition is also doing better. “Fakty” broadcast on TVN and TVN BiS was watched by 2.92 million viewers during the period under review. In turn, “Events” on Polsat, Polsat News and Wydarzenia24 fare worse than the flagship TVP daily. The program was watched by 1.95 million viewers during the period under review.
