he took his first steps on the stage in the first half of the 1980s as a co-founder of the band Madame. However, the real breakthrough in his career came only in 1992, when he founded the now cult group Wilki, of which he is the leader and vocalist. Over the years, they have released nine studio albums together, and their hits still delight new generations. Few know that before the artist achieved success, he struggled with a serious illness that turned his life upside down.
Gawliński got into a fight after the party. That’s how he got to the hospital, where he learned about the disease
In September 1987, Robert Gawliński married Monika, whom he met four years earlier during a Madame concert. They were united by their shared love of music. Mutual sympathy quickly turned into friendship, and then into love. However, before the couple got married, they were diagnosed with cancer. It was a coincidence that he found out about the disease. A few days before the ceremony, he had fun at a party organized by Fiolka Najdenowicz. At some point, he and his friend decided to leave the premises to get some fresh air. While they were drinking beer, they were accosted by a strange man with whom they got into a verbal fight. – There was a fight and someone called the police. It turned out that he was an Orm man, so even though he was the one who caused the commotion, they didn’t do anything and we went our separate ways – he said in “”.
However, the aggressive man did not give up and attacked them again several minutes later. – He followed us and waited for us in the staircase. I got hit in the head with a gas tube. I was covered in blood. It looked dangerous. Even my shoes were full of blood, Gawliński recalled. He was immediately taken to hospital, where, after tests, he received a devastating diagnosis. – The doctor told me without emotion that my skull was intact, but that I had… After receiving such news, what was I supposed to do? I came back to the party and I was just overwhelmed, he said.
Gawliński’s fiancée did not want to cancel the wedding. Years later she explained why
Gawliński did not immediately undergo treatment, because he was supposed to take it any day now. He told his fiancée how things were going and suggested postponing the ceremony, but Monika categorically told him to forget about such a solution. – I strongly believed that since we love each other so much, we will simply succeed. Why, at the beginning of our common path, which we have just entered, should we part in such a cruel way? I didn’t take it into account at all, the Wolves leader’s beloved directly admitted in one of the interviews.
Ultimately, the couple got married as planned, and instead of going on a honeymoon, they went to the oncology ward, where the singer underwent surgery to remove the tumor. – I was lucky and my skull wasn’t opened. A tube was inserted through my nose. The surgeons saw the brain on the screen and removed the tumor. I watched it afterwards. Terrifying. I didn’t even tell my mother about the surgery. She found out by accident after a few years, she found some x-rays of me – he said in “Fakt”. Although he ultimately managed to overcome the disease, the crisis moments forever changed his approach to life and completely reevaluated it. From a carefree person, he transformed into a man responsible for his own fate. – I felt the weight of responsibility for my existence, I started to notice how quickly time was passing. I turned from a boy into a man – said Gawliński.
