What is vitamin D, also called the “sunshine vitamin”? It is thanks to the sun that the body produces it. But what to do when it is missing, especially in winter? First of all, it is worth taking a closer look at your daily diet.

Vitamin D is one of the most important compounds and its effect on the body is invaluable. The body obtains most of it from the sun, less from food. However, in our latitude we do not have enough sun to provide the appropriate amount of vitamin D. Especially in autumn and winter, when in Poland we suffer from a lack of sun, it is necessary to supplement the deficiencies. Before reaching for supplements However, it is worth consulting a doctor who will order a blood test and help you choose the appropriate treatment in case of vitamin D deficiency. It is also worth taking care of and including products that are rich in it. What is vitamin D in?

What is vitamin D in? Don’t forget about these products in your daily diet

That’s why it’s worth taking care of a diet rich in vitamin D. You will find most of it in fish such as eel, salmon, cod, herring and mackerel. 100 g of salmon, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, contains as much as 526 IU (active vitamin) of vitamin D. In turn, fresh herring contains approximately 216 IU. Canned tuna also contains a lot of vitamin D (268 IU). Mackerel contains 360 IU of vitamin D.

You can also find vitamin D in:

  • ,
  • mushrooms (shiitake, chanterelles, champignons),
  • cow’s milk,
  • yeast,
  • yellow cheese.

The most vitamin D is found in eggs from free-range hens. In mushrooms, you will find vitamin D2, produced mainly by plants. The only difference is the way they are metabolized in the liver.

Homemade face mask with vitamin D. A quick way to smooth and radiant skin

As the nurse, cosmetologist and dietitian emphasizes, vitamin D for the face may prove beneficial in ailments such as acne, rosacea or seborrhea. It is suitable for both sensitive, vascular and mature skin. You can make a face mask with vitamin D using products you can find in the kitchen. Thanks to it, the skin will be illuminated, radiant and imperfections will disappear. How to do it? Here are two suggestions.

  • Egg yolk face mask: Whisk 1 egg yolk in a bowl. Add a tablespoon of honey, a tablespoon of yogurt and half a tablespoon of olive or almond oil. Mix and apply to face. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
  • Yeast face mask: Mix 1/4 cube of fresh yeast with a little warm milk until you obtain a smooth mass. You can add a bit of natural yogurt. Apply to your face and wait until it hardens. Wash off with warm water.
