SkyShowtime has published the first frames from the series based on the best-selling novel “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by Heather Morris. The photos include Oscar nominee Harvey Keitel.

“The Tattooist of Auschwitz” is a new SkyShowtime miniseries based on the international bestseller by Heather Morris. The story draws inspiration from the heartbreaking true story of Lali and Gita Sokolov, who met as prisoners of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The production will tell the story of Lali (played by Jonah Hauer-King, known from “Little Women” and “The Little Mermaid”), a Slovak Jew who was deported to Auschwitz in 1942. Shortly after arriving at the camp, Lali was appointed as a tattoo artist – one of the people who applied identification numbers to the arms of fellow prisoners. One day, the man meets Gita – played by the Polish Anna Próchniak, known from the productions of “Miasto 44”, “The Best” and “Bez shameu”.

Lali and Gita fall in love at first sight. The couple, constantly guarded by the unpredictable SS officer Baretzki (Jonas Nay, known from the film “I, You, Us, They” and the miniseries “Across the Ocean”), are determined to protect each other and survive the nightmare.

60 years after these events, Lali (Harvey Keitel – “Reservoir Dogs”, “Thelma & Louise’, “Bad Lieutenant”) meets aspiring writer Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey – “The Last of Us”, “Candy: Death in Texas”) and tells her his shocking story. An over 80-year-old man must once again face unimaginable traumas and the ghosts of his youth, which he spent in hell.

The series will debut on SkyShowtime in June 2024. The soundtrack was created by multiple Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer (“Inception”, “Interstellar”, “Dune”) and Kara Talve (“Prehistoric Planet”, “Faraway Downs”). The production was directed by Tali Shalom-Ezer (“The Princess”, “My Days with Mercy”), and the executive producer of the series is Claire Mundell (“Crying”, “Mayfiles”, “Not Another Happy Ending”).
