Five years ago, the mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, passed away. The politician’s daughter spoke out for the first time and gave an interview in which she told how she dealt with mourning and trauma. She also mentioned the great loss and how their lives were destroyed by TVP materials.

When on January 13, 2019, during the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, a man ran onto the stage and punched Gdańsk, Antonina Adamowicz was only 15 years old. Today she is a student, and she remembers the day she learned about her father’s death vaguely. She talked about the details of their relationship in an interview with Stanisław Pawłowski for .

Antonina Adamowicz did not know what was happening to her father. “It was just one big ignorance”

On January 13, 2019, Antonina Adamowicz was abroad. She explained that she had very little information about what was happening to her father. – It was just great ignorance and waiting for what would happen, because we knew practically nothing. (…) Those were the worst days, the most difficult days of my life – she admitted.

She remembers her father as a good and emotional man. She recalled that he was often away from home due to work, but then they talked on the phone. They discussed politics and social issues a lot. – These conversations were very natural and I felt that I had support and a good friend in him – she added.

Paweł Adamowicz’s daughter says it straight. “These are years of work on yourself, therapy”

Life with my father wasn’t easy. – There were various materials about him or us on TVP almost every day. These materials definitely went beyond the public sphere and entered the private lives of various members of my family, she said, adding that TVP’s attacks reflected on my father. Paweł Adamowicz didn’t sleep well or got up early in the morning because he couldn’t fall asleep.

How did Antonina cope with mourning after her father’s death? She admitted that it is easier for her now than a few years ago. – It’s not like I cry every day because of my dad’s death, but I definitely think about him every day. (…) Unfortunately, these are not things that come by themselves. These are years of work on yourself and therapy, she added.
