Father Dominik Chmielewski decided to talk about his strangest Christmas carol that took place a few years ago. She was so extraordinary that he will certainly not forget her for a long time. It was one of the so-called VIP housing estates in Szczecin. You never know what to expect from the locals in such places. It usually ended with barking dogs, or silence on the intercom, and the priest not being allowed to sing Christmas carols. In this one house it was completely different. The priest could not have predicted such a visit.

‘Usually, no one opened the door in these houses. This carol lasted the shortest, because no one there simply cared about receiving the priest with a blessing. And they opened it to me.’ – Father Dominik begins his speech. The priest walked from the gate to the door of the house for about 10 minutes. He was greeted by a man elegantly dressed in a suit, three luxury Mercedes cars parked nearby, a house with a garden, a pond and a swimming pool. After entering the house, the rest of the household appeared – his wife and two adult children. The table was prepared for the pastoral visit. The priest was shocked, he didn’t expect it. They prayed intently, holding hands.
The conversation with this man will remain in your memory for a long time
After a short conversation, it turned out that the man was about 60 years old and had an international computer business, but he no longer had to work. Only from time to time he checked whether everything was OK in the company. His wife owned several beauty salons. The priest thought to himself that they didn’t have to complain about money. They seemed like a very close-knit family. At one point, the man asked the priest to talk to him privately. He looked at the priest and asked for help, confessing that he was an unhappy man. Father Dominik was baffled. He wondered how someone who had everything that 99% of people aspire to could be unhappy. The man answered him:
Father, I had a car accident two years ago. I shouldn’t be alive. Doctors fought. I was in a coma for several days. I’ve already been on the other side. And please, priest, if you could see what I saw. I don’t want to come back here. I can’t find my way here.
He spoke of love for his children and his wife, but he was filled with sadness and regret. He repeated that he could not find his way in this reality. Nothing that he had achieved throughout his life and that he wanted to fulfill no longer seemed important or necessary to him after what he had experienced for a short time while in a coma.
