Calista Flockhart gained immense popularity in 1997 when she first appeared on screen as eccentric lawyer Ally McBeal. No less unusual people worked with her at the law firm. Three of them appeared on stage.
Ally McBeal dances in the toilet
Peter MacNicol playing John Cage, Greg Germann who played Richard Fish, and Gil Bellows (the series’ Billy Thomas) danced a routine in the “bathroom”. Fans of the production certainly remember the co-educational toilet where many scenes of the series took place – including the above-mentioned dance. The gentlemen danced with the actress towards the microphone (more photos can be found in the gallery). You can watch the entire performance in the video below.
“Ally McBeal” was a huge success and controversial
“Ally McBeal” aired for five seasons on Fox in the US from 1997 to 2002. In Poland, the production was shown with great success by Polsat. In the series created by David E. Kelley, Flockhart played a lawyer from a Boston law firm who worked, among others, together with her ex-fiance and his wife.
The production’s plots focused mainly on the romantic and personal lives of the main characters, often using court proceedings as a plot device. Ally’s partners included: Jon Bon Jovi or Robert Downey Jr. The series had a loyal fan base, although some feminists believed that the lawyers’ short skirts and constant flirting at work were production defects.
The title was won by, among others: two Golden Globes and an Emmy for best comedy series. Back in 2018, David E. Kelley: “I’m open to Ally McBeal coming back, but I don’t think I should be responsible for it. If there’s going to be a show, it should be made by a woman. If it’s going to be something new, it has to be really new and other”. In August 2022, information appeared that ABC was in the early stages of working on a continuation of the series, but not much else is known about it yet.
