Competition on the streaming portal market is growing, but Netflix remains the clear leader in Poland. However, in December there was a reshuffle on the podium.

The emergence of streaming platforms was one of the biggest breakthroughs in the recent history of cinema and television. They gave new opportunities to creators, but also became serious competition for cinemas. Not long ago, it was impossible to imagine that high-budget productions would premiere only online. Last year, among others, Fincher’s new film (“The Killer”), Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” and the Polish “Quack” debuted.

Netflix with an unshakable position in Poland among streaming services

According to the Wirtualne Media portal, over 10 million viewers use Netflix in Poland every month. In December 2023, the platform recorded a 51.15 percent share in the total time of video streaming use in our country (data does not include smart TV). Poles watched Netflix productions for an average of 5 hours, 16 minutes and 4 seconds.

Netflix’s position in Poland has been unshakable for years and is over six times stronger than two competing platforms that are gradually gaining popularity. We are talking about HBO Max, which attracted 2.94 million Polish viewers (for an average of 3 hours and 19 seconds a month) and Disney Plus – 3.82 million users in our country (2 hours, 16 minutes and 27 seconds). .

HBO overtakes Disney Plus. Polish broadcasters’ platforms down

Platforms of Polish broadcasters are also fighting bravely for viewers, but 2023 was not very favorable for them. Decreases were recorded by TVP VOD, Player, Polsat Box Go and Canal + online. Of the above-mentioned portals, the best performers are the TVP platform, which recorded 2.7 million Polish viewers who spent an average of 2 hours, 50 minutes in front of the screens, and Player – 2.8 million viewers with an average of 2 hours and 28 minutes of viewing. Player’s score deteriorated by more than two percentage points. According to Wirtualne Media, the platform lost over 100,000 viewers and the time spent watching decreased by over 27 minutes.

Netflix and HBO Max saw growth. The platform lost a small part of its viewers, but the average time of using the website increased by almost 45 minutes, which resulted in an increase in market share by 1.5 percentage points. Thanks to this, HBO Max overtook Disney Plus, whose audience is expanding, but the viewing time decreased by 10 minutes.
