An American senator criticizes changes in the Polish media. Trump’s friend is the author of a bestseller

Republican senator JD Vance, in a letter to the head of US diplomacy, expressed concern about the process of changes in the Polish public media and asked for intervention. He is an advocate of the Hungarian media model and a staunch opponent of providing military support to Ukraine. Previously, he became famous as the author of the best-selling novel “Elegy for Bidoki”.

JD Vance, in a letter of January 11 to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, condemned the process of transformation of the Polish public media and the silence of the US authorities towards the situation around TVP. Moreover, he demands that the country’s administration put pressure on Donald Tusk’s government to “rethink” the changes introduced there. It is worth recalling that President Joe Biden sent him congratulations after winning the elections on October 15 last year. For more information about the world of television, visit the home page.

“The layoffs of employees of Polish Television, Polish Radio and the Polish Press Agency, which began immediately after Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his political allies took power, raise questions about the new government’s commitment to media freedom and the rule of law,” wrote the senator from Ohio.

A fierce opponent of liberal changes in the media. Supporter of the “Hungarian model”

Vance accused the Joe Biden administration of hypocrisy in the context of previous changes in the media in the USA (change of authorities in the institution supervising, among others, Voice of America and Radio Swoboda/Free Europe during the administration of Donald Trump), as well as in Europe – “especially in Hungary after their citizens elected conservative authorities. He then continued that “staff layoffs at Polish Television, Polish Radio and the Polish Press Agency, initiated shortly after Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his political allies took power, raise questions about this new government’s commitment to media freedom and the rule of law.”

“Poland is a valuable ally and one of the few countries that meets NATO’s defense spending requirement of 2 percent of GDP. I urge you to encourage the new Polish government to consider any actions that would undermine freedoms dear to both Polish and American citizens.” JD Vance concluded his letter.

Author of a best-selling novel. We will see the cinema adaptation on Netflix

The US senator for Ohio has been in Congress since last year and belongs to the populist wing of the Republicans, close to Donald Trump. He is one of the biggest opponents of military support for war-torn Ukraine, and before his career in the Senate, he became famous for his best-selling “Elegy for Bidocks.” The novel is about the problems of the working class in Appalachia and Ohio, where Vance is from. There was also a film adaptation directed by Ron Howard, and the main roles were played by Amy Adams and Glenn Close. The film is available on Netflix.
