“So what if it’s winter? You clean up after your dogs all year round”

Dog owners who live with their pets in cities should clean up after them. They do it much more often than a few years ago, but not always. One of our readers complains that they neglect their duties in winter.

One of the readers wrote to the editors of nazwa.gazeta.pl and decided to share her outrage at the fact that many pet owners do not clean up after their dogs. Mrs. Katarzyna (name for editorial information) lives in a housing estate in the center of Katowice and claims that not only the lawns, but also the sidewalks there are a pitiful sight.

Dog owners don’t clean up after their dogs

Mrs. Katarzyna believes that if someone decides to keep a dog in an apartment, with all the consequences – they should provide it with an appropriate dose of exercise, i.e. take it often for walks, and when the dog does its business, it is mandatory to clean up after it. “It’s much better than a few years ago. On my way to the store or church, I see people bending down and cleaning up the waste left behind by their dogs. I also see that there are more and more special garbage bins for dog excrement,” wrote a reader.

Winter does not exempt you from the obligation to clean up after your dogs

However, in her message, the woman pointed out that people are much more scrupulous about cleaning up dog excrement in the summer. “In winter, they probably think it doesn’t matter, because there’s snow and mud and you can’t see anything,” she wrote. “So what if it’s winter? You clean up after dogs all year round. It’s an obligation, a habit and proof of the culture of dog owners,” she added.

Spring is the worst

The woman pointed out that when dog owners do not clean up after their dogs in autumn and winter, in spring local lawns (and even sidewalks) look pathetic. “What does it look like? How can it be like that? Sidewalks and lawns are for everyone, not just dog owners,” she wrote. “It’s time to take responsibility for your dogs now, too,” she concluded her message.

And you? What do you think about this? Let me know in the comments.
