On December 19, 2023, the Sejm adopted a resolution on the restoration of legal order and the impartiality and reliability of the public media and the Polish Press Agency. Following this, the Minister of Culture, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, announced new authorities of the public media. In the meantime, the companies Telewizja Polska SA, Polskie Radio SA and Polska Agencja Prasowa SA were put into liquidation, but as you can guess, this is only a transitional stage until the new media law comes into force.

The new TVP team has since then been working hard to restore the credibility of public television after eight years of the so-called good change. The propaganda “Wiadomości” on TVP1 disappeared, after a few days the broadcast of the changed TVP Info was resumed, and the selection of topics discussed in the broadcaster’s entertainment programs changed.
Some people were very emotional when the new head of the news station announced that employees would not be subject to collective responsibility. This means that some of the faces of the former TVP Info may appear on the air again. This has already happened. On January 6, Elżbieta Żywioł, who had been working at the station for the last eight years, returned to running the services. This angered many viewers, who accused her of lacking opportunism in previous years.

Of course, it’s not like we closed our eyes, we don’t remember, we forget, we draw a bold line across what happened. When we came to TVP Info, we knew perfectly well who and what they endorsed with their face – we said goodbye to these people. I’m not declaring that no one who worked at the old TVP Info will appear on the air now, but it will be a definite minority. Because when it comes to people who appear on TV, we have made a real revolution. In the case of Elżbieta Żywioł, a very efficient presenter, we listened to the viewers’ opinions and withdrew her from the air – said the head of TVP Info.
Later in the conversation, he admitted that he works very well with people who previously worked at TVP. He also noted that a significant number of them worked on public television before the United Right took power. – After all, TVP Info, before it was taken over by PiS, had the largest reach and, in my opinion, was the best news television in Poland. TVP Info regularly outperformed TVN24 in viewership results, not to mention Polsat News. This is thanks to specific people who have great television skills, he believes.
He also admitted that he may not share the life choices of people who have worked at the Television Information Agency for the last eight years, but he wants to give a chance to every person who shares the values guiding the mission of true public television. – Of course, if someone doesn’t work out, we’ll say goodbye – underlines.
