Andrzej Duda met with members of the National Media Council to talk about the situation of public media. Since December, when Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz began to introduce new heads, including: Telewizja Polska, representatives of Law and Justice are protesting, and some TVP employees, who last year appeared on TVP and TVP Info, are occupying the headquarters of the Television Information Agency. Lichocka was among the politicians who entered the TVP headquarters with a parliamentary intervention at the end of December. The photo was widely criticized.
“We were all surprised that you could talk to the president in this way”
Rutka claims that Duda showed a “conciliatory” attitude during the meeting, which was allegedly met with the reaction of Joanna Lichocka, an MP from Law and Justice.
MP Joanna Lichocka started scolding the president. We were all surprised that it was possible to talk to the president in this way. This also caused a reaction from the president’s entourage
– says Rutka. – They drew Mrs. Lichocka’s attention due to her inappropriate behavior. She said that non-public media represent foreign interests. She said that Law and Justice is the only party that cares about Polishness and patriotism. According to her, getting rid of public media will be detrimental to Poland. She struck patriotic tones – says LIchocka. Robert Kwiatkowski also emphasizes:
The course of this meeting was quite intriguing. I am amazed by the behavior of Mrs. Lichocka, who started lecturing the president until the head of the chancellery intervened. MP Lichocka said not to negotiate, you have to oppose it, because this is the only patriotic Polish television. Public television, which was destroyed by barbarians who destroy archives and turn off antennas.
– Andrzej Duda answered her very calmly that it was different with this television and it cannot be pretended that it was not government-owned until the elections. It cannot be that he will preach the need for television to be oppositional, because it is ridiculous, notes Kwiatkowski, who was once the president of the management board of Telewizja Polska. During the meeting, according to Kwiatkowski, the president was to speak critically about the times when Jacek Kurski ruled TVP, although he also had comments about the period before 2016.
– He said he remembered what television was like under Jacek Kurski. His voters, i.e. Andrzej Duda, did not want to watch this TV either. Moreover, he does not deny the right of the government coalition to make changes in the media, especially on television. Provided, of course, that it is done legally. He said that he didn’t like this television, he tried to change this state of affairs, he made changes, but as we know, it was short-lived. He approached himself with a distance, a bit self-ironically, and I liked that – says Kwiatkowski.
