Recently, only 100 girls in Poland received this name. It means “heaven”, but that’s not all

Celina – this name, according to data available on the government website Dane.gov.pl, was given to only 100 girls in the first half of 2023 (data for the second half of last year is not yet available – editor). This exceptionally beautiful name comes from Latin. Over the last few years, we can see that they are coming back into fashion.

According to current data, only over 17,000 women in the entire country have this name. Although it is becoming more and more popular – for example, in 2022 it was given to 161 girls, and two years ago it was given to 200 newborn Polish citizens. This is not a lot considering the total population, but it is clear that trends are changing slightly. For example, in 2011 this name was given only 76 times. And 10 years later – 213, i.e. almost three times more often.

It’s about the name Celina. One of its meanings is “heaven”, but the list in this regard is much longer. Well, this beautiful and unique female name comes from Latin. It means “heaven”, but is also translated as “heavenly” or “unearthly”. As for name days, Celinas most often celebrate them on October 21. Other possible dates considered are: August 22, August 27, December 15, December 27 and December 28.

Celina. The old meaning of the name

It was once believed that the name a person has also gives him or her a set of specific characteristics. Now it is seen as entertainment and superstition that is not worth taking seriously. However, in the past it was believed that people with the name Celina were lively, spontaneous and energetic people. In some circles, it was also claimed that these people were impatient and short-tempered, and that they were sociable, sociable, self-confident and valued freedom. They do not lack a sense of humor or self-distance. It was also believed that, on the one hand, they could easily equalize the sympathy of others and, on the other hand, discourage them from being attracted to them. Let us emphasize, however, that these are old beliefs and the name has nothing to do with the personality traits of the person who bears it.

Currently on the website you can find information about the names given to children until August 18, 2023. The final list for last year will be available only in a few months. However, it is already known that until that moment the most popular female name in Poland was Zofia – it was given to as many as 2,626 girls. In second place was Zuzanna – 2,489 Polish women were named with this name. Rounding out the podium is Laura, a name given to 2,450 girls.
