Between January 21 and April 27, the pagolarras will perform 15 performances of the maskarada over the weekends that they have been preparing for months, starting and ending in the municipality of Pagola itself. In total, they will visit 11 towns in Zuberoa and Donaixti (Nafarroa Beherea).

In 2019, the inhabitants of Pagola already performed the pastoral “Domingo Garat”, written by Frantxoa Caset.

This is the calendar of performances of the maskarada, as collected by the website dantzan.eus:

Sunday, January 21: Pagola

Sunday, January 28: Ezpeize

Saturday, February 3: Maule-Lextarre

Sunday, February 11: Iruri

Saturday, February 17: Gamere-Zihiga

Saturday, February 24: Muskildi

Saturday, March 2: Donaixti

Sunday, March 10: Ligi-Atherei

Sunday, March 17: Idauze

Saturday, March 23: Aloze

Sunday, March 31: Barkoxe

Sunday, April 7: Larraine

Sunday, April 14: UrdiƱarbe

Sunday, April 21: Lakarri-Altzai

Saturday, April 27: Pagola

The maskarada combines text and dance, and presents two groups: the red ones, including gathuzain or the skilled dancer zamalzain, and the black ones, more wild and tough. It consists of three acts: barrikaden haustea, ofizioak and jolasak.

Last year, the young people of Maule eliminated, as a novelty, the Buhames characters, since they understand that the role given to them is racist.
