“Constant pain, constant bad news. The latest news is that the Ukrainian poet Maksym Krywtsov, whose book in Polish is being published by Wydawnictwo Pogranicze, died at the front… I can’t believe it, because he was reading his poems only yesterday, and before that, Stus’s poems,” wrote Kamińska. Information about the poet’s death was announced on social media by Krywtsov’s mother, Nadia. She wrote:
Darkness (…) There is no light…. there is no day…
The poet Maksym Kryvtsov is dead. He wrote his last poem on January 5
Krywtsov is the author of the book of poetry “Poems from Luka”, which was included in the list of the best books of 2023 by the Ukrainian PEN Club. According to Razvedka.info, the poet joined the army as a volunteer in 2014 after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Then he worked at the Veterans’ Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center, but returned to the front in 2022.
“I quickly translated his last poem, from January 5. And I am posting his last, yesterday’s photo. I really regret that Maks did not live to see his Polish book, because he cared about it very much. And he was very happy with his debut book, which was published recently in Ukraine,” Kamińska added in a post on Facebook.
His last post appeared on Facebook on January 6, and a day later comments began to appear under it with information about Krywtsov’s death. Her circumstances are not known yet. “I was lucky to communicate with him and conduct classes, where he was a listener, in the ‘Voices of War’ program for veterans. A very lively, witty, extremely talented person,” writer Lubko Deresh wrote about Krywtsov. He was working on a novel.
