The results show that meat consumption in Poland is high. 89% of respondents eat them at least several times a week. Most often, 78% of people choose poultry. Pork took second place, and fish rounded out the podium. Unfortunately, many of these people reach for products in stores that should not be consumed.
What meat should you avoid in the store? Unfortunately, many people buy them
Minced meat is a frequently purchased product in stores. You can use it to make cutlets, spaghetti, or add it to a casserole. There is nothing wrong with it, as long as there is no note on the packaging that it is delicatessen. Unfortunately, this type of meat has little in common with it. As he says, minced meat should be chopped into pieces, contain no bones and contain only 1% salt, which means it should contain almost 100% meat in the meat. Delicatessen food contains from 70 to 90% meat, but it also contains plant proteins, water, acidity regulators and other ingredients that are unlikely to improve our health.
Do not buy this “meat” under any circumstances. Even its claws get into it
Another product that we should not reach for is mechanically separated meat, i.e. the so-called MOM. Unfortunately, it is often an ingredient of ready-made meals such as nuggets and ready-made cutlets. MOM is an extremely low-quality product, which is luncheon meat made from bones, meat and other tissues, such as tendons and claws. — Even if we grind good meat, it will spoil faster. And in the case of MOM, because it is a fragmented product, it is more susceptible to spoilage. Therefore, additional chemicals and preservatives are added to it, which extend the shelf life – Magdalena Jarzynka-Jendrzejewska, dietitian from the Dietosfera clinic in Warsaw.
