The first film in the series, directed by Sylvester Stallone, debuted in cinemas in 2010. The all-star cast and a captivating plot, full of unexpected twists and lots of special effects, attracted huge crowds to cinemas and soon the decision was made to produce the next part. However, this one is remembered by the actors mainly because of the tragedy that occurred on the set.
There was an accident on the set of “The Expendables 2”. One of the stuntmen lost his life
Work on the next production in the series began quite quickly, and in mid-October 2011 the team went on set. The photos took place, among others: in different parts of Bulgaria. Professionals also worked alongside the actors from the beginning and replaced them in the most technically demanding and dangerous moments. This was also the case in the scene of the boat explosion, which took place near the Ognyanovo reservoir near Sofia, the country’s capital. Although every precaution was taken, not everything went according to plan. During the recordings, there was an explosion, as a result of which one of the stuntmen died on the spot and the other was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Initially, the whole incident was shrouded in mystery, but when the information became widely available to the media, Nu Image and Millennium Films, the studios responsible for the sequel, commented on the matter. – Our hearts are with the families and those from the production who were affected by the tragedy – then during the official speech. At the time of the tragedy, he was shooting in a town located approximately 25 km away. It was also announced then that the tragically deceased stuntman was 25-year-old Kun Liu, and Nuo Sun was still fighting for his life in the hospital.
The accident stopped the shooting for a few days, after which the crew returned to finish what they had managed to create so far. Ultimately, the world premiere of “2” took place in August 2012. During each of the screenings held to promote the film, he emphasized the great merits of the stuntmen, admitting that continuing to work on the set after such a great loss was a huge challenge for everyone. – The stunt team took it hard.
