When are the nominees for the 2024 Oscars announced? The Academy announced the shortlist months before the ceremony at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood

While the Golden Globe Awards are just around the corner, as they will be held on January 7, the film industry awaits the Oscar nominations given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

This year, the 96th edition of the most prominent and prestigious awards will be held. The ceremony is scheduled for March 10 at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. It will be broadcast live as every year on the ABC signal with Jimmy Kimmel at the helm as host for the fourth time.

When are the Oscar nominees announced?

On December 21, 2023, the Academy announced in a press release the shortlist that will compete in the following 10 categories: Feature Documentary, Short Documentary, International Film, Makeup and Hair, Sound, Original Music, Original Song, Animated Short film, live action short film and visual effects.

A comprehensive list is available on the official website of the Oscars. However The official nominations will be announced on January 23while voting will last from February 12 to 27, according to Fotogramas.

Currently, the name Barbie, whose film has the most nominations at the Golden Globes, is mentioned in five categories.

Meanwhile, films such as Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Saltburn and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are shortlisted in the original rating category.

As a prelude to the Academy Awards, we have the Golden Globes and also the “Honorary Oscar” ceremony where golden statuettes are awarded in recognition of career achievements and outstanding contributions to the industry.
