Bruce Springsteen breaks record by selling his music catalog for $ 500 million

Springsteen has been a part of Columbia Records – the group Sony – since the beginning of his career.

Bruce Springsteen has sold his entire music catalog and publishing rights to Sony Music for $ 500 million, the largest transaction ever involving the work of a single artist.

With this agreement, advanced by Billboard magazine, the Boss has broken the record set a year ago by Bob Dylan, who sold his extensive catalog to Universal, which covers a work spanning six decades, for nearly $ 400 million.

Springsteen has been a part of Columbia Records – the group Sony – since the beginning of his career. In 1973 he released his first album, “Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ”, on this label, with which he has released more than thirty albums since then, including studio work, live records and compilations.

The American musician had acquired the rights to his music as part of a renegotiation of his contract around the 1990s, after having released historic albums such as “Born to run”, “The river” and “Born in the USA”.

Sales of Springsteen’s albums exceed 120 million copies worldwide and total a dozen number one, which is one of the greatest records in rock history.

He is also one of the most successful artists in rock, with more than twenty Grammys, two Golden Globes and an Oscar.

The Boss now joins the list of artists who have sold their song catalog with a record, which also includes Tina Turner, David Bowie, Paul Simon and Neil Young. (AND)
