Claire Foy with horror about her first job. “He hurled himself at me”

Claire Foy has been acting in award-winning productions for years and can boast of numerous EMMY awards, a Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. However, the beginnings of her career were a nightmare.

– gorgeous as the young Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series “The Crown” – she started her career in 2008. She starred in three series then, but one of them was particularly memorable. Unfortunately, not for positive reasons. Foy encountered a tyrannical director, which she talked about in a recent meeting with fans.

Claire Foy worked with a violent director

Claire Foy was Josh Horowitz’s guest on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. Andrew Scott also sat next to her – together they talked about their work, roles and situations from the sets that they remembered. When Josh Horowitz asked what was the worst thing a director had ever heard, Claire Foy didn’t hesitate.

“Finally start playing, baby!” – he said. It was during my very first time working for a TV series, Being Human. I didn’t understand anything, he just yelled at me. Fortunately, he doesn’t work anymore, she said with undisguised satisfaction.

The director of “Being Human”, whom Claire Foy did not directly name, was Declan O’Dwyer. The actress was only 23 years old then and it was her first real role. O’Dwyer is just seven years her senior. Despite what Foy said about the lack of employment for directors, he works on many contemporary television productions. He was a director in such series as “Vera” or “The Adventures of Merlin”, and collaborated on “Eve’s Obsession”. However, the situation is made even more interesting by the fact that Claire Foy, after recording the pilot episode for “Being Human”, was not included in the subsequent episodes broadcast on the BBC.

Although O’Dwyer in a 2019 interview recalled working on the set of “Being Human” in only positive terms (including working with Foy), the actress briefly commented on what was happening behind the cameras:

It took me a long time to accept that it was truly cruel to treat a 23-year-old like that in her first job. Instead of taking a person under your wing, helping him, shouting at everyone… Sometimes not very nice directors need someone on the set to shout at – and I was such a person – she concluded.
