Netflix started the new year with a bang, expanding its library with an adaptation of another book by the master of crime fiction, Harlan Coben. The series “You Can’t Fool Me Anymore” has only been available on the platform for a few days, and it has already placed on the podium of the top 10 most popular productions in Poland. What is the plot about?

It was one of the most anticipated productions. On January 1, 2024, an eight-episode series “You Can’t Fool Me Anymore” was added to the library, directed by David Moore and Nimer Rashed, the script of which was based on the international bestseller of the same title by Harlan Coben. This is the eighth and so far the most successful adaptation of this widely read author’s work, as it outclassed the competition, taking a place at the very top of the top 10 most popular productions in Poland.

The main character is Maya Stern, a former special forces officer who must rebuild her life after her husband, Joe, was brutally murdered. To be able to look after his two-year-old daughter while performing other duties, he decides to install a hidden camera in her room. When she unexpectedly sees her deceased loved one on the recording, she is shocked.

She immediately informs her relatives about the incident, but no one believes her account. Everyone unanimously tries to make her realize that it is just an illusion resulting from exhaustion and mourning. However, she does not give up and has no doubt that what she saw was real. She has a feeling that there is some intrigue behind it, so she is determined to solve the mystery at all costs. What will he discover while trying to find the truth?

Although the production is undoubtedly a sensation, attracting crowds of viewers, not everyone is delighted with the way the plot is presented. on several unexplained threads and “plot holes”, as well as on the meaning of the appearance of some characters. The character of Shane is particularly intriguing, as he seems to be a suspect in the case, although in the end he had no significant involvement in the development of events. However, there are supporters of the theory that this is a deliberate attempt by the creators to distract the viewers’ attention and direct their suspicions to a completely different trail.

The main characters were played by Michelle Keegan and Richard Armitage, while the other roles were played by, among others, Adeel Akhtar, Joanna Lumley, Dino Fetscher, Emmet J Scanlan and Marcus Garvey. Due to the cast, the creators decided to make a significant change in the plot, choosing Great Britain as the setting, not the United States, as was the case in . – I think it worked really well. It was very easy to switch without feeling like you were missing out on too much. In addition, Harlan and his team introduced a new, very English storyline – Lumley, playing Maya’s mother-in-law. – This whole plot element was beautiful. So the book was sort of plasticized, given a British shape, and it worked really well, said the actress.
