Pilea: characteristics of the plant
Pilea peperomiaceae is undoubtedly one of the most popular potted plants that you can find in almost every home. He came to us from Asia, more specifically from China and Vietnam. The characteristic element of this plant are, of course, its leaves: round, shaped like coins (hence the name “money”). They are quite intensely green in color and are mounted on long, thin stems.

Pilea is not a tall plant – it does not grow higher than 30 centimeters. You also need to know that its stems become woody over time. The size of the leaves of the money plant depends on the conditions you provide for it. They can reach a maximum of 10 centimeters in diameter, although the leaves of an average specimen are usually smaller. Due to its small height, this plant can also work well in a small interior.
Money: care
Are you interested? Caring for this plant is not a big challenge, which is why pilea is often recommended to beginner greenery lovers. Find her in your home a bright place, preferably with diffused light. Don’t expose your money to full sunbecause it can cause serious burns (its leaves are quite delicate). The best choice for him will be a western or eastern exposure. It will also be a good idea to place it behind a curtain that will protect the plant from sunlight. You can also turn the pot every few days with the money so that it grows evenly and does not stretch its leaves to the light.

Pilea feels best at temperatures between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius, although it will also tolerate slightly colder places. In winter, it is better to take it to a cooler room. However, you must be careful to do not place it in a draft and not expose it to loss of leaves. Money, however, does not have excessive requirements when it comes to subsoil. All it needs is fertile, permeable soil – it can be a universal substrate or one intended for green plants. Just in case, provide him too drainage layer at the bottom of the pot – use expanded clay or other stones.
When watering, be careful. Pilea will tolerate temporary dryness better than excess water (it can easily rot or contract a fungal disease). To avoid overdoing it, regularly check the condition of the soil with your finger – if the soil is still damp, refrain from watering. Only when the top layer dries, add water to the plant. In winter, it is worth limiting the watering of the plant (water it once a week or slightly less often).
Money: reproduction
Is there money in your house? Propagating this one will also prove to be uncomplicated. If you manage to provide it with optimal conditions for growth, it will quickly start sprouting side shoots. You can break off or cut off such an offshoot as soon as it reaches a length of about 10 centimeters, and then root it in the ground or use activated carbon for this purpose (if you want to speed up the whole process). If rooting in the ground, make sure that the substrate is light and permeable, and at the same time constantly moist.
