The news comes after the scandal in which the prince was embroiled in November over photos of him dating Genoveva Casanova in Madrid.
The Queen then closed ranks to support her daughter-in-law Mary Donaldson, who from the start fit in very well with the Danish royal family, according to Readings, despite Prince Frederick’s previous connections.

But this announcement seems to have a background that came to light thanks to the statements of Luis Plieg, director of Lecturas, in the Telecinco program, TardeAR, which were later reproduced by media such as Informalia from El Economist.
The reason for the abdication of Queen Margareta II
According to Luis Plieg, the Australian-born princess gave an ultimatum to the royal house after the “humiliation” of her husband.
“Either we’re going to be kings or I’m going to Australia,” is a quote he uses Informally look back at the situation that Mary Donaldson experienced in the days when her husband was seen with Genoveva in Madrid.

According to the publication, they would bury the betrayal with a divorce after a new and unpleasant infidelity or with a coronation as a gesture of forgiveness for the infidelity of the father of her four children.
“We’re either kings now or this is over,” the princess reportedly told her mother-in-law Queen Margaret II in one of their last conversations after the scandal.

“If I have something left, it is the sources in Denmark. I’m talking about colleagues in the palace, people who know what’s going on. In reality, the abdication is something Mary herself asked for: ‘Either we are kings now or this is over.’ He said he was going back to Australia,” Pliego said.
Mary Donaldson’s name was already on everyone’s lips and captured the attention of the press, especially now that she would assume the role of queen consort and gain greater importance and power. (AND)
