“I always thought about water,” says screenwriter McGuire. “Growing up in Florida (United States), surrounded on three sides by the ocean, in a climate where you can only survive by participating in water rituals, When you meet friends who have drowned, experience hurricanes that flood homes, boating accidents and shark attacks, you develop a kind of fear and reverence for water”.

That personal experience was combined with other cinematographic references, such as Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) and Shark (1975), for the original idea of ​​this new release.

“I saw that movie when I was ten years old. We had a swimming pool then, and I remember floating in the water alone at night when my little brother turned off the light. And although he knew that the pool was only 9 feet deep and 18 feet wide, he was sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that the water was an abyss. and that something terrible rose up towards me from the depths,” he said.
