Of course, remember that you should not make any drastic changes to your menu or diet without first consulting your doctor. Any modifications regarding the amount and frequency of meals consumed, daily calorie requirement or type of food should be supported by research and specialist care.

Burrell herself advises against strict diets and encourages people to introduce habits that can help maintain a healthy weight. Since the new year is usually associated with new beginnings and resolutions, she recommends starting now.

You should also bear in mind that physical activity will always help you lose excess weight. Moreover, it is recommended not only for people struggling with overweight. Daily exercise (it is best to choose the activity that we like the most) protects us against many diseases and allows us to function in good health and shape for years.

According to Susie Burrell, it is fundamental to set a few basic rules that we should not break during the week. The expert often suggests some of them to her clients. He emphasizes that, of course, there is no one-size-fits-all kit that will suit everyone, but the basic concept should work for most, although it may require some cosmetic tweaks.

Rule number one: no sweets during the day. The point is that if you have an uncontrollable craving for sweets, you should not give them up completely – but limit yourself to a specific time of day when you will also consume a certain amount of sugar. In this way, according to the dietitian, we will be able to “control our cravings more” – if, for example, we decide not to consume sugar in the morning, but only a small amount at the end of the day.

Another rule is no fried foods. Susie Burrell mainly means all packaged takeaway meals and fried snacks from restaurants. Limiting the consumption of these types of meals will allow us to have greater control over the amount of calories consumed during the day. The expert adds that instead of the typical “stir-fry”, we should enrich our diet with as many vegetables as possible. Therefore, if we do not have time to cook, it is better to quickly prepare a meal consisting of only vegetables (even frozen) and protein (e.g. egg), rather than reaching for a fried, fatty snack.

Another inherent rule of successful weight loss is: complete or significant reduction in alcohol consumption. It is recommended to everyone, not only those who want to lose weight. Alcohol in any dose is poisonous to the body and has a disastrous effect on the calorie burning process.

The last rule applies to your favorite drink in the morning, coffee. While black tea can be enjoyed as much as you want, the version with milk should be limited – because it can provide up to 100 additional calories a day. Even cappuccinos and lattes with skimmed or plant-based milk can provide 60 to 100 more calories.
