I have been going to the gym for four years. I notice a funny, but also irritating pattern. It’s usually hard to find exercise equipment there in early January. The reason, of course, is the huge number of people who visit this place. In turn, at the turn of February and March the situation usually returns to normal. So looking at these New Year’s growth spurts, I don’t predict success for all those people from the gym.
The scale has been stagnant for years
I try to exercise regularly. I walk a lot and go to the gym 2-3 times a week. And even though I eat what I want, my weight has been stagnant for years. I suspect I owe this to physical exercise and moderation in eating. I believe that it is better to eat chocolate when we feel like it than to dream about it for weeks and then, in a moment of crisis, resort to a few bars.
I don’t predict success for them
For years I have noticed that in January the gym I go to is under siege. Everyone is suddenly motivated and willing to change. However, they quickly give up. However, years of experience have shown me that it is much better to approach the topic calmly and make small progress. From what one of the trainers told me, some people even come to the gym every day in January! However, in March they are often no longer there. In his opinion, it is much better to start with 1-2 training sessions a week and then gradually increase their number, rather than immediately jumping into the deep end. This attitude makes us quickly get discouraged and lose motivation.
After my visit to the gym yesterday, I decided it was time for a change. In January and at the beginning of February, my visits to this place are pointless. I spend most of my time waiting in lines because the equipment is busy. So I decided that from this year January would be a month of break.
