Metacritic is one of the largest American websites dedicated to aggregating reviews of music albums, games, films and series. The website calculates the average of critics’ ratings, which is intended to approximate the reviewers’ sentiments towards a given production. As every year, the website publishes a ranking of the worst films released in the last 12 months.

The top five worst films of 2023 on Metacritic open with “Freelance” with John Cena. The fourth position belongs to another horror film – “Children of the Corn”, the first screening of which took place three years earlier.
On the podium was “After Death” – a fictionalized documentary about the study of the afterlife – with a score of 22 percent. Second place and 19 percent of positive ratings went to the film “With God’s Help”. Sean McNamara’s drama tells the story of a passenger in a plane in which the pilot died. The worst film of 2023, according to data collected by Metacritic, was “Pooh: Blood and Honey”. The horror film is based on one of children’s favorite fairy tales and premiered in Poland in March this year. Critics had no mercy for the film, its score was only 16 percent. Polish reviewers also did not like the production. On the Filmweb website, Ćukasz Adamski from TVP Kultura rated the film one star. “During the screening, I looked like Eeyore after suffering stomach poisoning. This film is like honey, but from the ears,” he wrote. Karolina Korwin Piotrowska also rated the picture “one”.
Despite poor reviews, the production recorded a good financial result in cinemas also in Poland. On the opening weekend, the production was watched by 77,000 viewers. It was only beaten by “John Wick 4”, which had its second weekend in first place with a total of 310,000 tickets sold.
