Poles couldn’t wait to see these five films in 2023. “Peasants” and “The Green Border” are not on the list

The end of December is a time for summaries, including film summaries. There was a lot going on on screens this year, and cinemas seemed to come back to life after the pandemic stagnation. The premiere that Poles couldn’t wait to see the most?

Before Christmas, Polish viewers were most likely to watch the film “Wonka” in the cinema, which is not surprising given the warm, colorful atmosphere of the production and references to previous hit adaptations of the story about Willy created by Roald Dahl. In second place was “The Wish” – the latest Disney animation, and the Polish production “Believe in Santa Claus” by Anna Wieczur-Bluszcz with a script by Ilona Łepkowska closed the podium.

The highest opening weekends in Poland in 2023

However, the annual summary of opening weekends did not include Polish productions. Box Office Report, just before the end of the year, presented five titles that turned out to be the most anticipated in Poland. It was these films that saw the greatest number of viewers on opening weekends.

The tenth part of “Fast and Furious” took fifth place with 276,000 viewers. Just behind the popular action movie with Vin Diesel was “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”. The animation from the Shrek universe was watched by approximately 300,000 people in Poland on its opening weekend.

“Barbie”, “Paw Patrol” and “Five Nightmare Nights” conquered the Polish box office

The podium in the ranking opens with another cartoon, this time the full-length “Paw Patrol”. The film was watched by approximately 325,000 viewers immediately after its premiere. This is still not the end of the animations in the top created by Box Office Report – the second place was taken by the horror film “Five Nightmare Nights”.

There could only be one winner here, or rather a winner. Poles visited cinemas in greatest numbers on the opening weekend of the film “Barbie”. The result is not surprising, the production was aimed at both adults and slightly younger viewers, and the promotional campaign for Greta Gerwig’s work became this year’s phenomenon. Over the weekend after the premiere, “Barbie” was watched by over 466,000 viewers in Poland.
